An absolutely horrendous & infuriating book, but only because of the subject matter. Well-written & no doubt well-researched, a ghastly eye-opener to the habitual abuse and paranoid superstition endemic to the Puritan culture. Absolutely horrifying that these are the foundation on which we built our country.

Definitely cute, and the cat is wonderful, but our professional crime reporter/sleuth is often so clueless, she’d never figure anything out without the cat. I don’t know how she held her big-city newspaper job without his help. I had 80% of the mystery figured out way before the reveal, so stars off for that. But still enjoyable.

It’s well written, tightly plotted, everything you expect from Connelley, but I didn’t enjoy reading it. The characters were all so corrupt & despicable, there was no one to identify with or root for. No one to like. I detest con-artists, liars, & cheats, & that’s what all of them were. The only decent human beings were the little girl & her parents - the true victims. I’m going back to Harry Bosch. He may bend the rules, but he’s on the right side.

Wow! This series has SOOO much happening, you’ll probably want to watch everything twice. At least. But definitely start with season 1, because none of it makes any sense without all that history. Please get season 1 back!!! Highly recommended.

Very twisted & clever. Up until the final chapters, I would have rated it far lower, but the final twist was so satisfying that it earned those extra stars. All I can say is be patient & get to the 2nd part.

The 1st story was okay, but the arrogant detective was seriously aggravating. The 2nd was pretty poor, but the 3rd was the best, hence the composite rating. 3 1/2 + 1 1/2 + 4 1/2 / 3 = 3 1/6

I only have 3 things to say about this book … 1st, Lucy is an ignorant fool. 2nd, it’s not paranoia if someone really is out to hurt you, & being worried & taking precautions about a real threat to your family does not mean you’re mentally unbalanced!!! 3rd, the constant jabs about environmentalists was really annoying & offensive. Not recommended at all.

Ugh! Goes into obsessed mommy mode at the 2nd page & stays there far too much. I’m not interested in women who are so hyper-obsessed with their children they can’t think about anything else. I’m certainly not interested in wasting my time reading about their kids’ bickering. Got better once she was in her shop with adults, but the passages about her little terrors were just torture. I wish she had just let the kids be background. I might have actually enjoyed reading it.
