This book has all the things I love about Sandra Brown and while not her best, is better than her last few offerings. As usual, you'll find a twisty plot, a spunky heroine and a complicated hero. In true Brown fashion, you'll reach the end going, "Wow, I didn't see that one coming." The story is told in a combination of flashbacks and present day encounters and centers around Arden Maxwell, who returns to her home town and the home she and her sister abandoned after their mother was tragically killed and their father, suspected of robbery and murder, disappeared without a trace, presumably with half a million dollars. Arden's return puts her under the scrutiny of a unscrupulous DA and brings her to the attention of Ledge, an ornery carpenter she approaches about completing renovations on her house. Romantic sparks fly and the tension ratchets up as Arden seeks to find out the truth about her father and the robbery that happened twenty years earlier.
