Reread this one this week. I really enjoyed it. Janet Maslin must be way smarter or less patient than me. I found this book to be a quiet, mellow reflection on learning how to open oneself up more fully to life. Tsukuru Tazaki lives a life of--dare I say it--quiet desperation. Good at his job, healthy, etc., but struggling to find much value or meaning in connecting with other humans. He starts to fall for a woman who sees him as someone hiding from old demons from the past and challenges him to get to the root of feelings he has closed off. Her challenge leads him on a quest to revisit and come to terms with painfulness from his past. A quick read and well worth reading.
