Chelsey Johnson's debut novel is a described on the flap as an "antiromantic comedy," but is it a love letter to Portland, where Johnson, who lives and teaches in Virginia, spent some time. Andrea escapes her conservative Midwest upbringing for the liberal, lesbian wilds of 90s Portland. She accidentally gets involved with a guy and gets pregnant. Portlanders will enjoy all the local references (Satyricon, Dead Moon, Holman's, La Bonita, the Egyptian Club), others might find it a little slight. Unsurprisingly, Carrie Brownstein has an endorsement blurb on the cover.
