Deepsix --- by Jack McDevitt --- Two planets are about to collide: opne a small earth-sized planet and the second, a gas giant, larger even than Jupiter. Scientific expeditions are mounted to observe and record this extremely rare event. Cruise liners playing host to the rich and famous are nearby to let their passengers glimpse a view of this event. But then things go very wrong. At the end of a series of mishaps, an assortment of six people, journalists, and travelers as well as space pilots alike are stranded on Deepsix. Their odds of rescue and survival get progressively worse. The end of the novel and the end of the planet loom. Ominously. McDevitt is a premier practitioner of the art of science fiction. He does this blatantly and he’s quite unabashed about it. This is an adventure story loaded with suspense. There’s no way this book can be put down until it’s finished. Enjoy it. PS: and yes, this isn't the only novel Jack's written.
