Young and old can learn more about eskimo culture through this book. The oil painted illustrations have a beautiful seen through glass feeling. The young girl refers to herself as someone and expresses her feelings and the day to day family events which reflect the weather as she waits impatiently for spring to come and to be able to enjoy berries again. The book acknowledges that the seasonal change affects animals too and that while the polar bear longs for winter, the human being endures it. This would be a good book for california children to get a better sense of the seasons.
