"Methods of work" is I believe a section in the fine woodworking magazine. This book is a selected compendium of recipes submitted by readers of the magazine. If you read it from one end to the other, your impression is that you will have learned a series of "hacks" you can do to ease your woodworking life.

It contains trivia bits such as "how to arrange cans of paint to avoid drip", "how to remove glue easily with a chisel", and "how to construct a holder for small wood pieces with bug nets", etc. It's an _interesting_ book in parts, but pretty much useless as a reference.

There isn't much to confirm that the submitted tips are submitted by users with experience or that they set an example to follow. Some other submissions included in the magazine are outright ads:

"For finishing a wood kitchen countertop, how about using moisture-curing urethane such as is used on bar tops/bowling alleys/gym floors? [...] Check out the products of COMPANY NAME, Erie, PA 16152. They're tough but flexible, and the glasslike surface does not mar easily. It will be alcohol resistant, too. - C Haber, Huntington Beach, Calif"

Exactly, dear book, _how about_ using urethane? Could you show me instead?
