In the process he comes across the character Zu and we learn about what happened to her during Never Fade. The second story is about the character Sam after Ruby leaves and her discovering that an old childhood friend of hers, Lucas, is at the camp thermund. The two form a risky plan of escape, but there's a reason no one leaves Thurmond. The last story also follows Sam but after the camps have closed and the trilogy has ended.
