Add a CommentI love the fact that this book continues to keep Nan and Sarah's friendship front and center, and I appreciate that there isn't a romantic subplot as in most of the Elemental Masters books. A fun and relaxing read.
I enjoy the Elemental Masters as a chance to do some light but enjoyable reading by this author. While not on par with her High Fantasy set in Valdemar, it does tic off the boxes for magic, fantasy and historical fiction as it takes place in the late 1800's in England. This story continues the timeline of Nan And Sarah who have magical abilities and familiars that make them valuable adjunct members of the White Lodge. Throw in a bit of Sherlock Holmes and John Watson, along with a school for newly identified kids of magic and stir in a bit of The Oldest, Old One and some Hobs and you have the makings of a fanciful tale. It isn't deep, but it is a nice addition to the Elemental Masters Series.
