"Cass is having a hard time since the night she saw the car in the woods ... with the woman sitting inside--the woman who was killed. She's been trying to put the crime out of her mind; what could she have done, really? It's a dangerous road to be on in the middle of a storm. Her husband would be furious if he knew she'd broken her promise not to take that shortcut home. And she probably would only have been hurt herself if she'd stopped. But since then, she's been forgetting every little thing: where she left the car, if she took her pills, the alarm code, why she ordered a pram when she doesn't have a baby. The only thing she can't forget is that woman, the woman she might have saved, and the terrible nagging guilt"-- Provided by publisher.

A perfect example of gaslighting.

Overall, the book lacked excitement and suspense with a very slow plot and story line. I thought the summary seemed very vague and uninformative but that's just the book, that's all there is to it. Since the story is surrounding a murder, I thought it would be a more interesting read but the entire focus is rather on the main character instead of the part that was actually interesting. The story dragged on incessantly and the main character was irritating, often making dumb decisions for no apparent reason. The big reveal at the end wasn't that great because the story is already so bland with few interesting characters. I liked the other books by Paris much better and don't recommend this one.

I just finished this book. For quite a few chapters I thought seriously about returning it, because it was just not terrific, but then I got into it enough that I wanted to know whodunit... while the beginning told how it started, I think Paris spent way too much time with that part of the book. Later, way later, I was glad I stayed with the book. I was flipping pages as fast as possible. So, if u want to know whodunit and you're just about to send it back, keep reading...it gets better, much better. You'll be glad you stuck with it. Happy Reading! 4 stars only tho.

Its a page-turning thriller that will leave you guessing, if you can't trust yourself, who can you trust? Why she didn't stop and help the woman in the car; who would be found dead.

I have a feeling that this book was moldering in a drawer someplace until Paris had a hit "first" novel. Breakdown shoulda stayed in that drawer.

I only wish there were more books by B.A. Paris. I really like how she writes. Her novels are clean, suspenseful, characters seem real with many dynamics. I’ve read the three of hers that are available and enjoyed her writing in all.
The only thing about this book is I wish it had a bit more zip in the end, but it was good nonetheless.

I quite enjoyed this book, and it did keep me guessing somewhat, but the genre is becoming quite predictable and that did take away from my enjoyment a bit. Overall, a good story though not as shocking as Behind Closed Doors.

I was disappointed with this book. The first 240 pages were repetitive. I kept reading because her first book was so engrossing I thought this one must get better. Unfortunately the outcome was predictable. The happenings were also so agonizingly spelled out it was as if the author didn't feel the reader could figure it out without being spoonfed.
