A delight, and a guilty pleasure for us adults. Some film studio should snap this one up.

Loved this book. Very solid story. Started off a little slow for me, but I'm glad I stuck with it.

Oh, what a warm and lovely story.

Sure it's a kids book, aimed at the middle school years (grades 6 through 8) but don't let that deter you from reading it. Honestly, it is well written and charming. It is such a breath of fresh air.

The chapters are super small so I could dip in and out with ease but I kept finding myself reading "just one more chapter" often enough that I was swept up in it.

Roz the robot washes ashore having survived a stormy shipwreck. A pack of otters inadvertently activate her and what comes next is a delightful story of a "monster" coming to terms with existence and deciding what her place in the world should be.

Reading this as an adult, the plot is predictable. But that's not where the joy lies; it's in the details and the charm of the writing. I loved the illustrations, which were also done by Brown. This book brought back the joy of reading to me. More adult novels should be like this.

This is one of those rare all-ages gems. Roz has to learn how to make friends and form a family, with lessons on loss and tough choices on the way. The illustrations are utterly charming and really add to the story. Would make a fabulous family read-aloud.

An interesting story about how nature adapts.

This book is the best. Its about this robot named Roz. Roz was first in a ship with other robots and a hurricane came and the ship sank. Soon Roz was the last robot to stay in one peace. And now its time for you to finnish the story.

Charming and fun, I couldn't put this book down! Brown takes the notion of being stranded on an island into an interesting realm by turning it into a story of community and acceptance. Roz the robot has so much heart.

At the beginning of the story a hurricane came and sank a cargo ship loaded with robots. Only five crates survived the hurricane. After a while they reached land, four crates broke, and one survived. Then some otters came and played a little with the broken parts, broke open the last crate, and turned on the robot inside.
Later in the story, Roz (the robot) breaks her foot and has to make another. Winter comes to the island and it is the coldest winter of all. She makes more homes for the other animals. A lodge burns down and they put it out with snow. Winter is over and spring comes again.
At the end of the story three reco's come to retrieve Roz. They are killed, but Roz is hurt. She goes to the mainland to get repairs and then come back to her home. He takes the Reco's jet to get to the mainland. They are warned that more Reco's will come to retrieve Roz and bring him to the mainland.
I am 9 years old. I thought this book should be rated a 4/5 and is for 6-15 year olds.
