"SuperMutant Magic Academy is a prep-school for mutants and witches but their paranormal abilities take a back seat to everyday teen concerns. Science experiments go awry, bake sales are upstaged, and the new kid at school is a cat who will determine the course of human destiny. In one strip, lizard-headed Trixie frets about her nonexistent modeling career; in another, the immortal Everlasting Boy tries to escape this mortal coil to no avail. Throughout it all, closeted Marsha obsesses about her unrequited crush, the cat-eared Wendy" -- provided by publisher.

Follows a set of students (human and non-human) through their time at the magic academy. It follows a timeline but consists of several one-page strips, so you experience a series of moments rather than a continuous story. I absolutely loved this book - it was weird and hilarious and artsy, and I wish she had more like this!

Episodic and artistic, this book is hilarious, relatable, clever, and diverse. I love the quirkiness that is actually very representative, i love the diversity in the cast and what everyone is going through, i love the satire, i love the art... i love everything about this.

Adolescent ennui at its finest, most creepy, snarky, poignant and surreal. There's much to love among the denizens of this mutant prep school: Frances the feminist performance artist, everything Marsha (oh Marsha!), prophecy-spewing kitty cats on prom night, hilarious D&D showdowns... My only complaint is there wasn't more. For more angsty genre satire, enjoy it alongside fellow former webcomics The Adventures of Superhero Girl (Faith Erin Hicks) and Nimona (Noelle Stevenson). Or lean into the melancholy cynicism and pair it with Ghost World (both Clowes and Zwigoff).

This large collection of single-page comics was culled from Tamaki's original web series. The "magic academy" setting is an obvious riff on Harry Potter. Personally, I was hoping for more narrative and less of Tamaki's sharp adolescent humour.

Collection of loosely linked single page gags. Drawings okay. Young adult.

This is one of my favourite graphic novels. Jillian Tamaki has a quirky, hilarious sense of humour. This books centres around a high-school for supermutants and people with magical abilities. The stories have typical high-school issues (dating, body image concerns) mixed in with a boy who can't die and a cat who must attend the high-school to ensure the completion of a prophecy. If you like quirky, strange laughs I cannot recommend this book enough.

This was a very funny book to read.
It sometimes didn't make sense but it was funny.
I hope to see more of this!

The reviews for this book are just right! Quirky! Offbeat! Coming of age! Angsty! Each page is a glimpse into some aspect of teenage life. It is a really fun read!

A series of comic strips set in a high school like any other - except for the mutants and wizards, that is. Funny and strange - I liked it a lot.
