A modern twist on several of the beloved Brothers Grimm fairy tales, intertwining the plots of a few choice stories and exploring the consequences of the characters' wishes and quests. This humorous and heartfelt musical follows the classic tales of Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Jack and the Beanstalk, and Rapunzel, all tied together by an original story involving a baker and his wife, their wish to begin a family and their interaction with the witch who has put a curse on them.
"With its ominous gnarled trees andenchanted look, Into the Woods is a place worth exploring."--USA Today.
"The first two-thirds of the film, which are like the Brothers Grimm's Greatest Hits on laughing gas, have a fizzy, fairy-dust energy."--Entertainment Weekly.

Although it was fun to watch Meryl Streep at her witchy best, this movie was far too long to sustain my interest.

This is an amazing movie. It is based around the results of the curse of a once-beautiful witch, a baker and his wife are childless. Three days before the rise of a blue moon, they venture into the forest to find the ingredients that will reverse the spell and restore the witch's beauty: a milk-white cow, hair as yellow as corn, a blood-red cape, and a slipper of gold. During their journey, they meet Cinderella, Little Red Riding Hood, Rapunzel and Jack, each one on a quest to fulfill a wish. I loved this movie. Personally, the end of the movie was not my favourite, but the rest of the movie was good. My favourite thing about this movie is that it is based off the original Little Red Riding Hood, but it has a modern twist to it. I would recommend this movie to kids ages 10+ because it has some scary parts init. Overall, this is a fantastic movie! 5/5

One of those musicals where everyone talks in a singing voice like all the time, instead of having any good/memorable musical numbers

Wow, does this film come right at you from the start! Hardly a moment to catch your breath. One thing is certain: critics could never dismiss Into the Woods as "formulaic." Excellent acting and very good-to-excellent vocals, even from the children. Typical Disney production, with no expense spared, nor detail overlooked.

The story was quite dark and morbid, but there were some absolutely hilarious moments in the movie that I think made up for it. The songs were great too; my favourites were Agony (LOL!) and Your Fault. The cast was excellent, the plot was interesting and I loved the mix-up of fairy tales (it was the original Grimm (and kind of grim) fairy tales and not the Disney versions, which was surprising but awesome!) It was definitely worth the watch!

The singing and acting were excellent, but this film was confusing and dragged at parts. While watching I felt that it had a rather dark and melancholy feel.

It's disappointing that so many comments give such glowing reviews on such a horrible excuse of a film adaptation of what originally was a brilliant, funny, engaging Broadway musical. This movie is sadly devoid of the cleverness, pitch perfect humor, timing, and overall power performances of the original Broadway cast stage recording. The only thing that I can praise in this version is the scene in which Agony was performed, which was hilarious and surprisingly thoughtful, considering how ho-hum the rest of the movie was. But do yourself a favor and watch the original Broadway cast stage recording DVD with the incomparable Bernadette Peters, Chip Zien, and Joanna Gleason instead of this third rate adaptation. Or at least watch it first so you can know how fantastic this musical once was and was always meant to be.

Both Princes: AGONYYYYYY!!!

Baker's Wife: [speaking to Cinderella] "I need that shoe to have a child."

Cinderella: "That makes no sense!"

Baker's wife: That's what woods are for: For those moments in the woods...Oh, if life were made of moments, Even now and then a bad one--! But if life were only moments, then you'd never know you had one. First a witch, then a child, then a Prince, then a moment--Who can live in the woods? And to get what you wish, only just for a moment--These are dangerous woods..Let the moment go..Don't forget it for a moment, though. Just remembering you had an 'and,' when you're back to 'or,'
Makes the 'or' mean more than is did before. Now I understand--And it's time to leave the woods.

Got a chuckle on this exchange:

Prince: My love, what is it?
Cinderella: Maybe I'm not your only love.
Prince: I love you! Truly, I do.
Cinderella: If you love me, why did you stray?
Prince: Uh...I thought that if you were mine, I would never wish for more.
Cinderella: If this is how you behave as a prince, what kind of king will you be?
Prince: I was raised to be charming, not sincere.
...
Prince: I shall always love the maiden who ran away.
Cinderella: And I the faraway prince.
