It's getting dark outside and Little Mouse must cross the woods to get home as predators' eyes are watching. Can Little Mouse find his family? This is an excellent, interactive book and good practice for one of our 6 by 6: Ready to Read skills--Tell Stories About Everything. Kids need to understand that stories have a beginning, middle and ending before formal reading instruction begins. Understanding the sequence of events in a story will help kids' comprehension. Use dialogic reading by asking open-ended questions that can’t be answered with a simple “yes” or “no” response. For example, you could ask questions such as, "Why do you think the mouse wants to get home?" and "Why do you think the mouse is afraid of the cat?" This book is a storytime favorite for both young toddlers and older preschoolers.
