I skimmed quite a few chapters in this one since I didn't need to know the long history of public education. But I did appreciate some of his explanations on how he'd answer some of the concerns regarding homeschooling. I wish he has gone into what's most important when homeschooling your child/children but he did what he set out to do which is discuss the advantages of homeschooling and why it often makes more sense than public education. He even talked about some of the things that were my greatest pet peeves and harmed me when I went to public school, but without saying that these flaws were intentional or anything like that because they aren't. That's one of the saddest things about public education having trouble, it's a noble cause and an attempt to make citizens educated in order to help democracy (rule by those same people) run more smoothly. But it's so huge and there's so much to manage, that often it's hard to intentional, which is kind of crucial while being an educator.

I was disappointed in this book. Although certainly well written, it seemed one-dimensional in repetitiously hawking the author's high-minded belief that he and his wife could provide a great education for their kids while one-size-fits-all public schools could only fall short. That pretty much sums it up. I would, for instance, liked to have learned more about the experiences that drive other parents to homeschool as well.
