Not in the same league as Red Storm Rising or Rainbow Six but a better read than most other fictions.

Though Tom Clancy is dead, the stories go on, now being written by Mark Greaney. The storyline, with a lunatic dictator running North Korea and aiming to assert himself on the world stage by killing off the American president, certainly has the same real-world sensibility of Clancy's novels. The weaknesses remain the same since the last good Clancy novel- The Bear And The Dragon. Continuity is ignored here and there, the partisan political angle is much more pronounced than it was in the earlier novels, and fundamentally, the characters created out of The Campus era just don't measure up in terms of interest the way characters like Jack Ryan and John Clark did. Even as their older selves, Ryan, Clark and Domingo Chavez are better and more compelling characters than the young Ryan, Sam Driscoll, and Dominic Caruso. Still, the second half of the book picks things up considerably, and helps give the book as a whole a boost.

Good read, good plot, current events parallel. About half way thought the book you don't want to put it down.

The destabilization of the Korean Peninsula was hardly in China's self-interest.

... because it had been long known by the Chinese that North Korea's real value lay under the dirt.
