This book takes a wide and surprising departure from Hillerman’s beloved detective stories set in the southwest. It is about an American man named Moon who goes on a dangerous personal quest through war-torn Vietnam and Cambodia to locate and rescue the infant daughter of his recently deceased brother. It is a wonderful blend of relationship dynamics, thrilling action, suspense and even a little romance thrown into the mix. Although I found the ending to be rather abrupt, I thoroughly enjoyed reading this, and only wished that Hillerman had written more stories like this.
