Meet Stephanie Plum, a bounty hunter with attitude. In Stephanie's opinion, toxic waste, rabid drivers, armed schizophrenics, and August heat, humidity, and hydrocarbons are all part of the great adventure of living in Jersey.

She's a product of the "burg," a blue-collar pocket of Trenton where houses are attached and narrow, cars are American, windows are clean, and (God forbid you should be late) dinner is served at six.

Now Stephanie's all grown up and out on her own, living five miles from Mom and Dad's, doing her best to sever the world's longest umbilical cord. Her mother is a meddler, and her grandmother is a few cans short of a case.

One for the Money is now a major motion picture starring Katherine Heigl as Stephanie Plum and Debbie Reynolds as Grandma Mazur.

The character Stephanie Plum is hilarious in this series. She gets herself into so many interesting predicaments. Of course Ranger and Joe Morelli sounds like real good looking and sexy characters! I would recommend this series to anyone who like humor and quirky characters in their reading.

Don't judge a book by its movie. Read the book. Button Factory vs. Bounty Hunter. You decide.

The series has a lot of appeal for many readers and I think that is why it's so iconic. 1) It is a ongoing immense series that has not slowed momentum. This is attractive to readers who can't get enough of one particular author or series. Janet Evanovich readers know that there will always be a book in the works, and that their wait is short. 2)The ever evolving and changing cast of characters and awkward obstacles bring light hearted comedic elements to this series that will have you dying with laughter. 3) This series has elements of erotic romances that give it a rom-com feel. There are several handsome romantic interests that support the plot movement, and continuously show up through out the series for fan service. 4) The contemporary setting in New Jersey is unexpected and brilliant. It gives you those nostalgic mob moments.
There are many more reasons to pick this series up, but those are the most prevalent in my mind.

A little unrealistic for my taste.....Got to Chapter 4. It was recommended to me. I may attempt at another time, but too many other interesting books to read.

Have you ever thought what kind of woman would become a bounty hunter? Then this might be the book for you. This is a flashback to the late 80s early 90s complete with cordless phones and spandex shorts, and is the first in the popular Stephanie Plum novels. This is a gritty story with a strong protagonist.

Was really reading this just to say I had. By the end it had grown on me but I almost stopped reading partway through the first chapter due to some graphic situations.

A quick and easy, yet fun read. We're not talking mind expansion or literary craftsmanship, but for entertainment value, Janet Evanovich really nails it. A very sordid tale out of the lower-income 'burbs of New Jersey-- lowbrow fun.

After catching the trailer for the movie, I was intrigued and I thought I would first give the book a read. It is first in the series about Stephanie Plum, a down-on-her-luck girl who decides to take up bountyhunting to make ends meet. Though some of it is dated because it was originally written in the 1990’s, most of it is still relevant. It is a good light-hearted mystery which makes me want to read the entire series. Definitely worth a look if you hadn’t read it before. (submitted by SC)

This book was amazing! I just love the way Evanovich writes, and being more of a fantasy romance reader, I wasn't sure initially if I would enjoy this book, I was very wrong! One for the Money had me captivated and in fits of laughter. It had a good storyline and fun characters.

PLOT OR PREMISE:
This book introduces Stephanie Plum, a good girl down on her luck, who falls into bounty hunting to pick up some cash and avoid having to move back home. She lives in the suburbs of New Jersey, and dances around the question of whether she wants to bed Joe Morelli again -- the local cop who stole her virginity when she was young and foolish, and then wrote about it on the bathroom walls and the stadium bleachers. She got revenge years later by almost running him down with a Buick. No cream puff here, she is also not exactly an expert at being a "fugitive apprehension agent". More like an apprehensive agent, and the descriptions are hilarious.

WHAT I LIKED:
Stephanie is supposed to find an elusive man -- Joe Morelli! Yep, her cop foil and first-love is wanted for allegedly shooting an unarmed suspect. Morelli claims there were other guys in the apartment, and there was a gun, but that doesn't change the fact that Plum needs to bring him in to get the money. And she isn't experienced enough to match wits with him for most of the book. But she has help from a lot of extra support characters -- Ranger, the experienced bounty-hunter; Vincent, the bail bondsman; and Plum's family.

WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE:
Her grandmother is a little over the top but so are Lulu and Jackie, hookers in the downtown neighborhood; and one seriously disturbed boxer, with a passion for hurting women.

BOTTOM-LINE:
Excellent first in the series

A recently-laid off woman is down to her last few dollars. She's hocked everything she has and is forced to work for her bail bondsman uncle as a bounty hunter just to buy groceries. The story follows her exploits at learning the business while tracking a most uncanny bond-skipper. In the interim, she meets up with some really inscrutable characters.

This series is about about a woman bounty hunter, her co-workers, foes, friends, and family. Often you can relate to her misadventures, other times they are so out there you know they can't really be true, but you laugh anyway.

Just to clear the air, I'm sorry I wrote that poem about you on the stadium wall when we were in high school.
