Well written narrative gives an interesting and quirky look at 1980's Savannah. Based on true events though written as a novel. Interesting characters abound. The prose gives a real sense of feel to the town. Very similar to the movie. Worth reading if you are interested.Well written narrative gives an interesting and quirky look at 1980's Savannah. The novel is almost a bizarre cross between Ulysses and Tropic of Cancer. Interesting writing style makes the narrative well paced. A quick novella that is an outdated ( first published in 1920) look at women and adultery. It's hard to recommend the story but it is also so short that if you are interested it is not going to use up too much of your time.

An excellent look at the downside of over planning by government, asymmetrical risk by large businesses and poor science based on statistical fallacies. The book is a bit self indulgent by the author and could have been done in a tighter manner but the this does not detract from the concepts. This is a very applicable book during a global pandemic and what poor decisions will be made by governments and central bankers as we exit this Black Swan event. Translated from French this book written by a French journalist living in Beijing looks at the "rat people" who live underground in former bomb shelters and who provide the cheap labour that allows the economic "miracle" in China. Made up of people from the countryside that have no standing in the city this book details the hard life that they live in an attempt to provide for the children who still live in the villages back home. A detailed and quick narrative that is quite disheartening to read. Well worth it if you are interested.Translated from French this book written by a French journalist living in Beijing looks at the "rat people" who live underground in former bomb shelters and who provide the cheap labour that allows the economic "miracle" in China.
